Good Reasons to consider a
JOHANNUS organ from
Nelsen Organ Works

Johannus is a financially stable and secure company, well capitalized and with no outstanding debt, indicative of superior management. Johannus has a rich thirty-two year history of organ manufacturing, and has remained focused while others have shifted their interests, research and capital to other business ventures.

Johannus is the instrument of choice in over 80 countries.
Johannus manufactures its organs in a new "State of The Art" factory, completed in June of 2002, in The Netherlands. Charles and Marshall Nelsen visited the new facility during the dedication celebrations. We were very much impressed with the facility and the beautiful Concert Hall which is a part of it. Quality is still mandatory, and the skill and dedication of the staff is a part of their everyday life. They know the art of organ building.

The new facility represents a tangible commitment to the future. A multi-million dollar investment with the ability to triple production, it is more than just a building. With new manufacturing technologies, including CAD (computer assisted design) elements, new equipment, expanded research and development, Johannus is poised for growing market penetration.
Major technological advances were introduced in all the product lines in 2003, incorporating digital organ design improvements that were previously unattainable. Dramatic revisions and new specifications abound. A large percentage of company profits are re-funneled to Research and Development every year, guaranteeing that Johannus will always be the world leader in state-of-the-art digital electronic organs!
Real Time processing captures the detail of each sampled (recorded) pipe. Johannus even samples pipe organ mixtures individually, instead of multiple ranks together. Johannus performs note by note sampling, capturing every harmonic and scaling detail of the pipe organ. Sampling rate and bit resolution are two of the most important aspects of accurately replicating pipe organ tone and harmonic detail. While, for example, compact discs use 16 bit sample resolution, Johannus uses 24 bits - plus 8 additional bits for expression - for a total of 32 bits. Relative to professional audio sampling rates, these instruments' tonal accuracy substantially greater than compact discs!
The Johannus system allows each note of each digitally recalled pipe sample to be assigned an independent pitch source so that minute pitch variations and harmonics are properly replicated even at full organ! Many digital organ manufacturers share pitch sources or actually drop out stops, notes or harmonic detail as you build up to full organ. Johannus retains the full harmonic and pitch detail that you would hear in an equivalent pipe organ.
Johannus designs include more DACs (Digital to Analog Converters). DACs change digital information (sampled pipe sound data) to analog wave form. Not only is it necessary to have high quality DACs, but lots of them if the analog signals are to retain their proper harmonic structure. This is critical in replication of pipe tone, because each sampled pipe has its own harmonic structure and tonal qualities. Playing too many notes with an insufficient number of DACs results in distortion and lost harmonic detail of the original pipe sample. Johannus provides two to four times as many DACs as other manufacturer’s models with similar stop lists. This is why Johannus organs retain authenticity without distortion.
A pipe organ speaks into a space from many locations. Therefore more channels of audio separation are provided by Johannus, with all of the amplifiers and speaker systems required. You will experience pipe organ ensemble as the sound emanates from multiple locations.
With special Intonation Software and a laptop computer Johannus organs can be voiced in a variety of ways. This sets Johannus apart from others. Superb levels of tonality adjustment and extensive volume leveling and scaling are accomplished right where the organ will be located. The voicing software also provides other adjustment capabilities to further customize your instrument.
"On Site" sampling is one of the reasons that Johannus organs have a lifelike sound quality. Johannus has more sampled organ pipes on file than anyone else! Over 80,000 individual sampled organ pipes – Over 1,500 ranks of pipes – from many tonal concepts are recorded (sampled) from famous organs around the world! Site acoustics and pipes cannot be separated if you want to capture all of the harmonic and sound activity of each individual pipe that was part of the tonal concept of the original pipe builder.
Johannus organs sold in America meet the specifications of the American Guild of Organists. The first tonality set is designed for American tastes, but Johannus also provides a complete Baroque tonalty IN THE SAME ORGAN. Other manufacturers provide a limited number of alternate voices, but Johannus provides two complete organs in every standard model. At the touch of a tab you move from American Classic sampled pipes to Baroque sampled pipes.
Johannus organs are complete in design and specifications. Even smaller instruments include divided expression, crescendo shoe, the two tonal concepts, and programmable pistons.
Choose from hardwood consoles with special woods and finishes. Mechanical moving or LED lighted draw knobs or tabs. Customized stops and specifications are available throughout the line Johannus and Nelsen Organ Works can meet your needs and wishes..
